This is definitely a fun piece. I too have always had problems with the ridiculous armor that most fantasy women are garbed in. When I'm looking for visual aids for characters, I always prefer women that are more practically armored.
Pretty spot on! But annoys me the fact that some ppl use this argument "but it's just a game...durp" to valid the pointless female armor. This is a cliche and beyond ridiculous! I bet if games developers created a pointless male armor they (mostly and likely males) would rage and sending death treats mails to the game company!! Double standard? hypocrisy? yes! Plus, a badass/kickass female character is only valid for her hotness and youth, nothing else matters. What are we heading to? We're better than this! C'mon! What is enough is enough so let's move on for the better.
Look, I agree with you that we need to change the way females are portrayed in games by giving them more appropriate attire, but your argument is so brittle.
Look, I'll give you a counter example that's just as valid as what you said.
Oh, you say you hate the bikini armor, huh? I bet if you actually put some on, you would rave about how pretty and sexy you look and feel! Double standard? Hypocrisy? Yes!
See what I did there? I constructed a hypothetical version of you that is based completely on speculation and no facts whatsoever. Then I used this completely baseless version of you to deconstruct your original argument, making me victorious in the debate!
So, for factual basis, I offer a single piece of evidence counter to your argument that men would rage and send death threats to game companies if male game characters were dressed in revealing armor:
LOL that bikini example of yours... *facedesk* Look, if your female character is a dragon slayer, there is no need to put her under a bikini armor, get it? That's what I'm saying and pretty much this drawing. And no way someone would feel confident battling a dragon with that kind of armor, just in games right? oh well...
Kratos is not sexualized so that women would buy the game, not at all, like the female characters ARE sexualized so that men WOULD buy the game. He sure has no armor on his chest but you cannot compare Kratos to Solange from Code of Princess, for instance. No, seriously! One of the main reasons female on games have pointless armor is to sell their bodies to young men, primarily. Ever heard of male-gaze?
I agree on the whole about impractical armor, but no guy has ever raged at an image of a man in impractical armor to my knowledge. Have you seen the massive amount of "barbarian" images with a man wearing functional leather pants and no upper body covering... People just think he looks "badass".
nay nay! Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there in fact there is more pointless female armor than pointless male armor so men can't criticize much, hopefully. I bring to your attention that the answer to this problem is not to sexualize men as much as women are, do not get me wrong. And no, no men or women look badass with pointless armor, just saiyan. If she/he is a dragon slayer give them proper armor even though it is a game/novel/comic wtvr! If he/she is a barbarian i still thing they need good armor. The stereotype of the barbarian men in leather pants is ridiculous to me, it's not even the slightest bit badass, again, just saiyan.
Hey I'm doing a research paper on women in nerd culture and I was wondering if I could use this image in my paper? I think it would help but you can say no, I just wanted to ask.

Kratos, from the God of War franchise.
