So I thought about it some more. Folowed those ideas from part 1. Probably waaaaay off lore now. But what can you do.

We see a bunch of krogan males around the galaxy but the females are all inside the krogan DMZ. What if it’s cause they’re not allowed to travel outside it and really not welcome. Cause they were the main fighting force for krogan in the rebelions. They were the real threat and there’s still a negative view of them.

Also we the krogan males we come across don’t seem too bright, but Bakara shows a lot of tactic\strategic thinking. Staging a successful campaign against the whole galaxy requires that kind of thinking.

And it’s also interesting that salarians chose to strike at females with their genofage. Hitting males with some sterility virus would achieve the similar thing. But what if the goal was not only to limit the numbers but also psychologically break the main threat and fighting force of the krogan. Which were their females.

 That’s about it for now.

Yeah, it IS going a bit off-lore now that you elaborate on it a bit more. You probably already know that they're kept like prized possessions in the DMZ. I refer to Wreave's quote: " NOBODY TOUCHES MY FEMALES!!" And someone has to stay in the house and make more Krogans.

That's generally how the story goes.

But it seems like Urdnot Bakara, as well as the warlord Shiagur are exceptions of their time. Both had to use their wits and cunning to get where they are at. So it's still a meritocracy, mostly.

Whether they are more armoured than males or not underneath their clothes is still open for interpretation. Females have never been shown in-game, I think. Were there any unclothed females during Mordin's loyalty mission? I don't remember.
